Infertility can be one of the most frustrating situations a woman of childbearing age can face. With so much information on the subject, how do you know what to believe. These are just a few natural changes you can easily make to improve your chances of conceiving.
  • First, take a deep breath, maintaining a relaxed attitude keeps cortisol levels (stress hormone) low allowing your body to be more inclined to stay in homeostasis (a state of equilibrium or stability)
  • Drink plenty of water. Staying well hydrated also allows your body to be more inclined to maintain homeostasis
  • Start an exercise routine, but don't overdo it. Exercising for at least 30  minutes at a time allows your body to release endorphins (the feel good hormone) assisting your body to feel well in mind and body
  • Stop completely the use of all tobacco products. Studies have shown the detrimental effects to both mother and child with consumption
  • Eat more vegetable protein like beans and nuts. Try eating less animal protein. Try increasing your intake of fish that is low in mercury
  • Take a good multivitamin, folic acid , B vitamins especially B12 (making sure that all vitamins you take are either in liquid or gelcap or gummy form for best absorption)
  • While multivitamins are a great source of vitamins and minerals, food sources are best. Increase your iron sources from fruits, vegetables and beans
  • Start drinking red raspberry leaf tea. This is a great uterine toner that has been around for over 300 years and has proven to many benefits to women of childbearing years and beyond (as soon as you have a confirmed pregnancy, immediately stop drinking the red raspberry leaf tea. In pregnant women this tea can cause cramping and can threaten your pregnancy)
  • You can drink coffee and black teas in moderation
With all of these lifestyle changes your mind and body will be prepared for the pregnancy you have been desiring. Remember, once you and your partner have been actively trying to conceive for one year without success, then check in with your midwife for further testing. The beauty of trying the methods mentioned, these can only help your mind and body to be healthier and stronger, saving medication for the last resort.
